3.1 Experiment 1 results
Figure 4 |
The mass of the crystals was 110.3987 grams while the control had a mass
of 131.7599 grams.
3.2 Experiment 2 results
Figure 5 |
The mass
of the crystals was 127.3198 grams while the same control had a mass of
131.7599 grams. Fig. 4 shows the mass of the crystals in a table, while Fig. 5
shows that mass of the crystals represented in a bar chart.
3.3 Special observations
Figure 6 |
It was observed that the
crystals grown with the presence of a magnetic field had a more organised
structure, with many tiny long rods, while the crystals grown in the control
were large and grew in a messy way. (Fig. 6, 7, 8, 9) There were more crystals
grown without a magnetic field in the beaker that those with the magnetic
field, however this could be because the crystals grown without the magnetic
field were larger. It was also observed that the crystals grown in the control
had a higher opacity than the crystals grown above the magnet and were slightly
translucent, while those that grew with the presence of a magnetic field were
transparent. (Fig. 7)
